Seriously. Ever.
I have mentioned how I landed at the Radio Ranch, quite a bit by accident. I was newly arrived in Los Angeles, just starting at the Groundlings, and in need of employment that didn’t involved serving food to anyone. Not that I am a snob about waiting tables; I just happen to really suck at it. I answered a blind ad in the Hollywood Reporter, and became the receptionist for those funny guys who did the Gap ads I remembered from back home. And oh, yeah, Chicken Man himself. Dick Orkin.
It is my crazy-ass pleasure to now be working with the second generation of brilliant Orkin radio funny people. I learned everything I could from Dick, and now I learn every day from working with Lisa.
She is a writer, actress, stand up, producer par excellence and as unique a voice as you will findanywhere on the airwaves. Plus she single-handedly kicked the Ranch into a twenty-first century pointof view.
And lucky for you, she is going to teach you how to do what she does.
Budding journalists learn those five questions to ask: Who, What, Why, Where and When. With the sixth How thrown in for good measure. One of the most important things you’re gonna learn from Lisa is the right questions to ask your client to get the information you need to make breakthrough advertising. And how to take that information and brainstorm, even if it’s with yourself, to come up with honest, funny, emotionally connecting situations and characters with which to tell your stories.
Storytelling being the basis for everything we do here at the Ranch. And the basis for creating the most successful funny radio possible.
